INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

Scope and editorial policy

Revista Estudos Feministas is an interdisciplinary journal dedicated to enhancing the visibility of scholarly production in the vast field of feminist and gender studies in Brazil today. The journal hopes to foment theoretical and academic debates as well as to furnish analytical tools that might contribute to the practices of the women’s movement. The journal is published bi-annually, in Portuguese and Spanish, and contains six sections:

  • Articles
  • Translations of previously published articles by scholars from outside Latin America
  • Interviews with distinguished researchers in the field of feminist studies
  • Thematically focused dossiers on issues of current relevance to feminist scholars and activists
  • Book reviews

Revista Estudos Feministas invites submissions not presently under consideration for publication elsewhere.

Manuscript Review Procedure

Submissions sent to Revista Estudos Feministas are evaluated first by the Editors and/or by the Executive Editorial Board and then sent to at least two outside referees. The review and preparation of the manuscript for publication can take three to six months. During this period, the manuscript may be returned to the author for further work or submission elsewhere. Prior to publication, the authors are expected to review the copyeditor’s changes in the manuscript to ensure that there are no unintended alterations to the substance of the work. Only the Editors are aware of the author’s identity in the review procedure. Each contributor receives one copy of the issue in which her/his work is published. The contents disseminated in Revista Estudos Feministas are the sole responsibility of its authors.

Preparation of originals

  1. Manuscripts should be submitted in three copies of document Word or RTF, one copy on disc, double-spaced on paper size A4, and in Times New Roman 12 font.
  2. Articles should have up to 9000 words or approximately 25 pages, including footnotes and bibliographical references. Essays should have up to 6000 words or approximately 15 pages. Articles and essays should be submitted along with abstracts (approximately 250 words) and keywords (up to 5) in Portuguese and English. In order to protect anonymity, the author’s name (followed by institutional affiliation, postal address, phone number, e-mail, and a brief biographical description) should appear on a separate title page. Submissions that do not have all the above information will not be considered.
  3. Graphs, charts, and other illustrations should be submitted on separate sheets, adequately numbered and entitled, and indicate where they are to be inserted in the text. They should be produced in black and white only and be of good quality enough as to allow for direct reproduction.
  4. We welcome book reviews on books (published in the last two years) concerning feminist and gender issues. Reviews should have approximately 2000 words and contain all the relevant information about the book (title, author, place of publication, press, year, and number of pages) and be sent in one hard copy and on disc to the Editors at the address above.
  5. When preparing manuscripts, the following should be observed:
    • Single quotation marks for non-conventional use of words;
    • Double quotation marks for citations;
    • Italics for foreign words, neologisms, and book titles. Italics may also be used for emphasis;
    • Do not use underlined words or words in bold;
    • All notes should be footnotes and be numbered. Please, use notes with restraint;
    • All sources of citations should be indicated in the footnotes and contain the following information only: Author’s Last Name (in caps), year of publication, page numbers;
    • The complete bibliographical references should appear at the end of the manuscript, following the ABNT guidelines. Important: Because we are a feminist publication, the first name of the author should always appear in full in the bibliographical reference list.
