Angela Miranda Cardoso refers to the tradition of this interpretation inaugurated by Debret and continued by John Armitage, Pedro Calmon, Octavio Tarquino and Lilia Schwartz, with the latter having corrected it in a later work. The fantasy of this version probably got more complex over time and, according to one of its versions, the crown was said to have been symbolically lost in North Africa "messianically waiting for the return of the young monarch so that once again he could put it on."
